Reason: The popup is unnecessary. So they keep popping up with this dialogue. Please try again now or at a later time. With this popup, the user is totally in control of preventing an app from accessing Internet.Also, you simply forget that data plans are not necessarily unlimited.

That's the only thing I can trace it to. Enabling flight mode is not a solution to this problem. I can actually predict when I'm about to receive an MMS as the error message appears, flashes 3 times, and then I get a notification of a new MMS. On the plus side, disabling this setting can also save some battery life since the iPhone is no longer actively seeking out wireless networks to join.
